Monuments of Kerala

Kerala has rich reserves of monuments which have a historic importance. All these monuments will definitely mesmerize you and tell you a lot about the glorious past of Kerala. There are many Palaces, forts and other monuments which have a historical importance in Kerala.

Bolghotty Palace
Bolghotty is actually an island which is in close proximity with the city of Ernakulam. And this is the place where the Bolghotty place is situated. This place was built way back in 1744 AD by the Dutch. This palace is a classic example of Dutch architecture. This palace is now converted into a hotel which is managed by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation that is KTDC. If you are a golf enthusiast then there is a golf course which is built here. You will definitely want to try out this golf course.

Dutch Palace
This palace is also called as Mattancherry Palace. This palace was built by the Portuguese and later on they handed over it to the King of Cochin in 1555 AD. In 1663 the palace was renamed as Mattancherry Palace. Presently the palace is being used as portrait gallery which displays the various Rajas that is kings of the past.

Bastion Bungalow
The architecture of this bungalow is of Indo-European style. This was built in 1667 AD. The rooms have tiled roofs and verandah floor made out of wood.

Jewish Synagogue
This Synagogue was built way back in the year 1568 AD. This synagogue has beautiful Chinese style hand painted tiles. You can visit this synagogue from 10 am to 12 am in the morning or in between 3 pm to 5 pm. Take note that this synagogue is closed on Saturdays and also on official holidays of Jews.
