Climate of Kerala
Kerala state shows diverse pattern of climate all over.
Kerala is surrounded by Arabian Sea on one side and on the
eastern side it is surrounded by Western Ghats.
Temperature Information
The overall temperature in Kerala is high. It rarely
falls below 18 degree Celsius in monsoons too. The
temperature could be categorized under tropical type. Most
of the times the temperature in Kerala, is warm and
pleasant. The summers in Kerala are really hot and the
average temperatures recorded during this time is about 33
degree Celsius. While the maximum temperature in winters
is about 21 degree Celsius and the minimum average
temperature recorded is about 18 degree Celsius.
The climate of Kerala can be broadly classified
into four distinguishing categories these are:
Winters in Kerala
The winter season in Kerala starts in the month of
December and ends in February. In winter season also there
is rainfall seen in some parts with special mention of
northern parts of state which receive low rainfall.
Summer in Kerala
The next season after winter is summer. The onset of
summer is in the month of February and ends in the month
of May. The temperatures are very high during this season.
Some parts also receive scanty showers sometimes.
Kerala Monsoon
Monsoon season is further classified into South West
Monsoon and North East Monsoon.
South West Monsoon in Kerala
This season begins somewhere in the late May and end in
September. The northern parts of Kerala receive heavy
showers during this time compared to the southern parts of
Kerala.
North East Monsoon
The onset of North East monsoon is somewhere in early
October and ends most of the times in December. The
northern parts of the state receive a low rainfall and
contribute only 10 % to the total annual rainfall. For
