Fort Overview
Built by Raja Rai Singhji on 1588 AD it is one of the most impressive forts in the entire Northern India. Raja Rai Singhji was the sixth ruler of Bikaner and was one of the most trusted generals of King Akbar. The fort is built on a hilltop and is surrounded by deep moats and high walls. There are only two entrances to the fort and the main one among them is named Sun Gate or the Suraj Pol. The fort consists of 37 palaces, pavilions and temples. The palaces are full of architectural work along with extensively carved windows, towers, balconies and kiosks. The Flower Mahal or the Phool Mahal is fully adorned with mirrors and glasses while the exquisite paintings and the carvings of Moon Palace are very pleasing to see. The museum in the fort has a large collection of manuscripts, jars, arms and weapons, jewellery and various kinds of carpets. Location of Junagarh Fort
Junagarh fort is situated at the most convenient place of the city and can be easily reached through railways and by the road. Almost all the major trains stop at the railway station situated near the fort and the state run deluxe and semi deluxe buses connect to the fort.
