Jaisalmer Fort Information
The Fort is made up of Yellow sandstone and when the sun rays fall on it, it seems as if it is ignited into a golden flame and hence it is named as the Golden Fort or the Sonar Mahal. Even today, the fort acts as a residing place for the people of Jaisalmer. One can see the Islamic and Rajput styles of architecture both merged and embedded on the Fort. The tourist can see Akshya Pol, Ganesh Pol, Hawa Pol and the Suraj Pol in the Fort. The Jain temples which were built in around the 12th century is another attracting sights and is dedicated to Sambhavanthji and Rikhabdevji.

Location of Jaisalmer Fort
The Golden Fort or Sonar Kila is located 80 kms away from the city of Jaisalmer which is in the state of Rajasthan. The olden glow of the Fort is because it is built with yellow sandstone. It was founded by Jaisal who was a Bhatti Chief on a hill named Trikuta in 1156 A.D. Many houses of merchants and their shops or say a mini-township is enclosed within the walls of the fort. Along with 99 bastions the fort has a barrier of sandstone which is 30 ft high.
