Fort Overview
Built in 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh the fort is a magnificent structure held high on a hill. The wall of the fort spread over a distance of about 3 kilometers. The fort was used as the place for artillery production by the Rajputs and huge battlements surround the fort which offers a breath taking view of the surrounding area. The world’s largest cannon on wheel named Jaivan can still be found at the place. The most fascinating thing is the well planned water supply and the storage system which is still a wonder for most of the people. The museum of the fort has a large stock of antiques, coins, photographs and the different artilleries used by the Rajputs at that period. The main purpose of the fort was to provide additional security to Jaipur. Thus, due to this reason the people will never be able to find any artistic or any other form of carvings on the fort. Inspite, been built for additional security the fort consists of many palaces, temples, granary and many huge towers. The main gate of the fort is called the Dungar Darwaza and after entering the gate the tourists can easily get the feel of the remarkable view of the city below the hill.
