Fort Overview
Seven years before the city of Jaipur came into existence, there
existed a state of Dundhar which was ruled by the Kachhwaha rulers and
Amer was the capital of Dundhar. The Amer fort was constructed by three
rulers namely, Mirza Raja Jai Singh, Raja Man Singh and Sawai Jai Singh.
By exploring the magnificence of this Fort one can conclude that it
might have taken many years to build the fort. There is a road which
leads to the main gate of the Fort but it is more fun to get to the Fort
by a ride on an elephant. The medieval citadels which are best preserved
can be seen inside the Amer Fort. One can also view the gardens,
pavilions, temples and courtyards inside the Fort. The fort is roughly
in equal proportions, a former administration center, a palace of
pleasure and a strong military that are worth seeing.

The Amer Fort, located just 11 kms from, Jaipur, was once the capital
of the Kachhwaha clan before the existence of Jaipur. The Fort, built in
red sandstone and white marble, looks stunning and amazingly wonderful.
Is foreground is the Motha Lake which adds charm to it. Raja Jai Singh
started the construction of the Amer Fort but later on its construction
was carried out by other rulers of the city.

The places to be visited around the Fort are Jagatsiromani Temple which
was built by Man Singh in the memory of his son Jagat Singh, temple of
Sanwalji which has temples of Ambikeshwara, Narsinghji and Lakshmi
Narayanji Temple and a Stepwell named as Panna Mian ki Baoli which was
designed in the 17th century.
