Fair Overview
The Urs fair is in remembrance of the great Sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti where people of all communities gather from various parts of the world to pay homage. The pilgrims make rich offerings at the holy spot which are called Nazara. Rose, Jasmine perfumes and sandalwood pastes are offered. Professional singers called qawwals sing in the praise of the saint with high pitched voice and people listen attentively. It is held on the 6th lunar month and ends on the last day of that month.

Mehfils which means religious assemblies are held at night and is presided by the Sajjada Nashin of the dargah. There are separate places for women. The mehfil ends late at night with a prayer for the Khwaja so that his soul rests in peace.

Looting of kheer is an interesting ritual. This kheer is cooked in large cauldrons and is distributed as blessed food. Fatiha and Salamti are read on the 6th of Rajab at the end of the Mehfil. A recitation of poems is arranged where poets of all communities recite poems.

Ajmer is located at a distance of 132 km south west of Jaipur and 198 km east of Jodhpur. Connection by road to Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Kota is available. Ajmer is located on the Delhi-Ahmedabad railway line. During this festival there are buses which ply from all cities.
