Fair Overview
Dussehra is one of the famous and popular festivals of Kota, Rajasthan.
It is also one of the most famous and the biggest festivals celebrated
through out India. On this occasion of Dussehra there is a fair which is
being held every year. This particular festival of Dussehra comes every
year in the month of Sept to Oct, in the Hindu month of Ashwin. This
festival is celebrated in honor of Rams victory over Ravana, who was one
of the kings of Lanka.

On this auspicious occasion many people of Kota come together and
organize a magnificent parade of Lord Ram. This parade starts from the
main market and ends up at the fair of Dussehra. There are many Vanar
Senas (monkeys) which makes this parade more attractive. On this day of
Dussehra a big fair is being organized where people from different parts
of the city of Rajasthan come and celebrate.
There is a big statue of Ravana, Kumbhkarana and Meghnath is being made
with paper, bamboo and some crackers. All the people around the area
enjoy, eat, drink and play various games. Vijayadashmi is another name
given to this festival. As the day comes down al the people get ready to
burn the statues, this part of the fair is the best as people wait and
watch the statues being burnt.
Location and Reaching Kota Dussehra
Kota is at the reachable distance from Jaipur. Its main bus stand is on
the Bundi Road which is near the eastern banks of Chambal River. The
near by cities to Kota are Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Jaipur
and Bikaner. Its railway station is on the Delhi Mumbai Line which goes
through Madhopur.
