Fair Overview
The annual festival of Kailadevi is held at the village Kaila in karuli
district in the month of Chaitra that lasts for a fortnight. The temple
of Kailadevi is located at the banks of the Kalisil River in the hills
of Trikut, 2 kilometer away. Another attraction is the small temple
dedicated to Bhairon that is situated at the courtyard and facing the
shrine of Kaila Devi is a temple of Hanuman that is locally called
Languriya.
Information on Kailadevi Fair
Nearly two lakh devotees gather for during the fair. Staunch devotees
observe the ritual of Kanak-Dandotis. They cover a distance of 15 to 20
kilometer to reach the temple by laying flat. Some eat food and take
rest during the journey but others endure the rigorous journey without
anything. Groups of Mina tribe arrive at the fair dancing, singing and
creating an energetic atmosphere. The spacious courtyard becomes the
venue for dances and songs are sung in the praise of the god.
How to reach Kailadevi Fair
The nearest railway station is that of Hindaun that is located at a
distance of 48 kilometer. Shri Mahavirji is another line that head to
the Western railway near Kaila. It is also approachable by
well-maintained roads from Karauli, Hindaun and Mahavirji. During the
fair the state transport as well as private transport operators provide
buses keeping in mind the amount of people visiting the place.
