Jambheswar Fair in Bikaner

Fair Overview

The Jambheswar Fair takes place two times every year on the Phalgun Budi Amavasya and Ashvin Budi Amavasya particularly in the Mukam Village, Bikaner District. This fair is mainly held in the memory of the Bishnoi sect founder, Jambheswarji. The first fair is held in February – March period and is attended by the people from Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The second fair is smaller in size and is attended by people coming from the neighboring villages only.

Celebration details

The first fair which is held on the Phalgun Budi Amavasya every year has people attending it from Punjab, Rajasthan. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and the local people and comparatively, the second fair which is small and the people from the nearby villages visit it on the conveyance of camels, bullock carts or by foot. When the shops are lesser there are more compromise sellers, mostly from Nokha and Bikaner. The guests visit temple which is at Mukam and also the sand dunes at Samarthal and take part in the necessary rituals and the other activities. Some of them carry the sand which is in the tank called Talai at Mukam, and further on place it at the foot of the dune at the Samarthal.

Location and Transportation

Village Mukam is 15 kilometer away from Nokha. There are regular buses from Bikaner to jaipur, Bikaner to Salasar and Nokha to Surajgarh that stop at the Mukam bus stand. Nokha is 60 kilometer from Bikaner on the Bikaner-Jodhpur road. There is also a railway station of the Northern Railway.
